Howdy, howdy! I had such an amazing weekend as much as I literally feel like I could punch someone in the face right now, people can be so annoying. But that aside. I’m very much appreciative of the fact that I’m here today. I spent almost my whole Saturday at Imani Children’s home in Kayole, Matopeni and on my way a lot ran through my mind. I remember even at some point texting my sister and telling her, “Thank God for the life you’re living now“. Sometimes we get so caught in our day to day activities and forget to sit back and be appreciative of what we have and how far we’ve come.
Giving back has given me a different perspective on life. I mean look at how much money you probably spend on boozing, eating out, shopping for things that you probably didn’t need, betting (hehe) among others. Don’t get me wrong though. I don’t mean you should now stop living the life you’re comfortable in but I believe you can sacrifice one of this things every now and then and contribute towards a great cause. 🙂
Challenges? Of course there are challenges. The deal is, at the end of the day you really want commitment from people when they’re giving back. You want the excitement, but then they need to follow through. Following through is the hard part, and that’s what’s important. Instead of passion or excitement, alone, we need to incorporate commitment and results. People can get excited about something, realize it’s hard, then that passion might now count for anything. In short? Follow through with your passion, truly carry out your mission and show your community the results.
 
There’s a particular excerpt I read a while back on giving back from the Huffington Post that would probably sum up how I generally feel about giving back. Here goes:
“There aren’t enough words in the dictionary to describe the significance of giving back. Even the most simple acts of benevolence — the ones we think of as “random acts of kindness†or “no big deal†— are actually incredibly important. Volunteering in all shapes and forms strengthens our communities, brings people together and provides us with valuable experience and insight. And selfishly, when I give my time and energy to others, I just feel better — about myself and my community.”

This article goes hand in hand with a post I read from one of the greatest women that I admire. If you set your mind to doing good and giving back, it doesn’t matter how much you have or the excuses you give, Just do it. You inspire me every day and you are one unknowingly one of my mentors.
